Favorite Holiday Activities

I am definitely in the full Christmas spirit this year! We have decorated our house from top to bottom, and I believe I’ve been listening to Christmas music since October.  But the best part about this time of year is that there are so many fun traditions that we can do as a family.  Here are my top activities that we do as a family during the holiday season.

Disney on Ice: This year we took our son to the Disney on Ice show that comes to Denver every year. It is super fun for the whole family and reasonably priced. James was probably a little young to sit through the whole show this year, but I think it would be perfect for ages 3+.

Zoo Lights: The zoo here has an amazing display of lights throughout the entire park that is fun for the whole family! My son already absolutely loves the zoo, but it makes it even more fun to have animal themed Christmas lights all around!

Christmas Movies: One thing that I have always enjoyed is watching Christmas movies with the family! Some of our favorites are: The Grinch, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Polar Express, and Elf! It’s also a great excuse to cuddle up in some Christmas pajamas with some hot cocoa!

Holiday Baking: It has been a tradition for years that we all get together to do some Christmas baking! It is so much fun, and the kids love to decorate all of the sugar cookies.

Reading Christmas Stories: The last tradition that I enjoy with my family is reading classic Christmas books! I’m lucky enough to have a toddler that absolutely loves to read books with us. We currently have Santa is Coming to Colorado by Steve Smallman, FAO Schwarz’s The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore, and Christmas in the Manger by Nola Buck.

The holiday season is so much fun! I can’t wait to see the excitement on my son’s face this Christmas. I would love to hear what traditions others do around the holiday season. Share them in the comments below!

My new tradition with my “grandies” is I purchase ornaments that are relevant to what they are interested in at this point in their lives. And those ornaments are collected each year in a special Christmas box to be saved until they have their own traditions someday! I hope my grandson’s make it to adulthood as he likes to play with them throughout the year!! ❤️
